Here are a couple excerpts from the book:

Chapter 1: What Have I Done? […the first words of the book]

“Get out of your country, from your family. And from your father’s house to a land I will show you.” Genesis 12:1

What have I done? That thought filled my mind as I woke up with a start. Where am I? Oh yes, I was on a flight from San Francisco to Minneapolis/St Paul. It was June 8, 1980. Glancing out the plane window, I could see the sun beginning to slip down behind the clouds. We would be arriving soon. The question remained. What have I done by moving my wife Dorothy and our two girls Beth and Joy (together with Joy’s little poodle Cindy) from Australia, going halfway around the world to America without any guaranteed place of work or ministry?

The gravity of it all hit me like a sledgehammer. We were taking this step of faith without any assurance we could stay in the country. After all, we were only coming on visitor visas for a six-month stay. Besides which, we had brought Joy’s dog Cindy with us, and because of the quarantine restrictions, she would not be allowed to go back to Australia again. What have I done? We were convinced coming to America was what God had called us to do, yet it was an enormous step of faith to start all over again in a new land. . . .

Chapter 32: The Best Is Yet To Be […the last words of the book]

. . . It is over 50 years since Dorothy and I sat in a tiny little Methodist church in Sydney for the final service before we closed the church. It was at a critical time in our lives when we both heard, through the message the preacher brought that day, that we were called to go out like Abraham of old, not knowing where we were going. We were to go out in faith and obedience, following the Spirit wherever He led us. Little did we know all that it would involve, or that it would eventually mean doing what Abraham did and leave our home country and move to another land that He would show us.
Dorothy and I would honestly say that even though it has involved many times of testing, hardship, sacrifice, and trials, it has nonetheless been an exciting adventure, and we give God all the glory for all that He has done. It has been exceedingly, abundantly above all that we could have asked for or thought.

So heaven awaits us, as “The Best is Yet to Be.”
