This could be one of the most controversial Langstaff Letters that I have written so far. It is about a word I received concerning Nebuchadnezzar and Obama. I will come to that word in a moment . . .

Recently a friend gave me a CD by Pastor Mac Hammond of Living Word Church in Minneapolis. The message was actually given back prior to the 2012 election. He pointed out that the greatest threat to our nation is the growing divide in America today. ‘A house divided against itself cannot stand.’ Other than the civil war, there has never been a greater division in America than we have now.  He pointed out three ways in which we can begin to rectify this divide –

  • At the Ballot Box by electing anointed leadership aligned to the Word of God.
  • Pray for Revival – a nation awakened to its need for God that brings a response in accordance with 2 Chronicles 7:14. or else
  • A Crisis will Come of sufficient magnitude. That crisis is not the will of God, or the hand of God, but if we, as a nation, don’t turn, then collectively we move ourselves out from under the blessings of God.

Recently, I read an article by Bishop Joseph Mattera, a leader in New York and head of Christ Covenant Coalition. The article is entitled ‘Eight Things a Person Could Do to Diminish the Greatness of the United States of America.’

He starts off by stating, ‘There are many who believe that Barack Obama was motivated to be President of the United States to enact a radical agenda to transform the nation. Many believe his actions and language reveal he is against America exceptionalism, making the USA just one power among other developed nations.’ You can check out the details in this Charisma article by Joseph Mattera.

With these two message as a background, let me share a word that I recently received. Let others judge this word.

In mid March I received this word – ‘What Nebuchadnezzar was to Israel, Obama is to America.’

Let me make it clear that I am not suggesting Obama is a modern day Nebuchadnezzar. Rather, I am drawing a parallel to the conditions that existed in Nebuchadnezzar’s time in Israel and suggest that the same conditions exist today.

What do I think that means? Nebuchadnezzar was King of Babylon and the Babylonians were the ones who destroyed Jerusalem in 586 BC, taking many of its people into captivity. Israel had turned from God, in spite of many warnings, and thus removed themselves from the protective hand of God coming under judgement, a judgement of their own making.

I believe that same situation exists today.

America, collectively, has turned its back on God. R. Albert Mohler Jr, President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, states ‘we’re watching, in one generation, the collapse of cultural Christianity and it coming with a new velocity and a new intensity . . . What is now being viewed as morally right wasn’t even morally mentionable two generations ago.’

And just as Israel came out from under the hand of God’s blessing at the time of Nebuchadnezzar, so America has come out from under the hand of God at this time during this presidency. Judgement of our own making.

It all began with the counter cultural revolution of the 1960’s and 1970’s that was the ‘root’ and today we are seeing the ‘fruits’ of that movement. 2012 was the tipping point, when President Obama came out to endorse gay marriage after he had stood for traditional marriage in 2008 and then the courts and government opened the door across the nation.

Let me be clear that the issue is bigger than homosexuality and the President. This is but the tip of the iceberg, a moment in time that symbolized what is happening. The real issue involves: War between a biblical world view and the world view of secular humanists that dismisses absolutes, in favor of a relativism, where people are free to do whatever they want, expecting everyone else to accept, or even endorse, their alternative lifestyle. The battle is not so much political or social, as it is a battle over authority. Man rejecting God’s authority and taking it to himself. Problem is just as there are natural laws that control the universe (e.g. Gravity), there are spiritual laws that control the spiritual realm. We can no more redefine what God has designed (i.e. Marriage), as we can decide to ignore the effects of gravity.

‘What Nebuchadnezzar was to Israel, Obama is to America.’

In the fall of 2012 when the nation was leading up to the Presidential Elections, I shared a word that simply stated, ‘Northing of permanent good will come out of this Presidential Election . . . unless, our nation turns back to God. I believe judgement is coming to this nation’ and I stated that maybe it was already here. It is like God was saying, ‘You can choose which way it will come by who you vote for in this coming Presidential Election.’

The only difference I see now is that it happened quicker than I thought it would. But it is happening.

As mentioned at the beginning of this letter, we can begin to rectify the situation in our country. Rick Joyner is quoted by Charisma stating, ‘The Lord will help us, but He won’t do our part. We choose our leaders and have to take ultimate responsibility for the ones we choose. We also choose them by failing to vote. It is a true statement that the only thing required for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing.’

Let us pray and let us fulfill our Christian duty and vote!

I still have hope. Israel, after 70 years in captivity was allowed to return to the land once more and out of that restored nation eventually the Messiah came. I believe we will see a mighty move of God in the midst of these troublesome times in accordance with Isaiah 60:1-2.

Let us pray that restoration will come again to America and that God’s purposes for this nation will be renewed again.
